See our frequently asked questions if you're having trouble renewing online.

Click one of the links above to renew your licenses. You can only renew one license with each payment transaction. If you have a shop or school, you'll need to create an account for each of the three categories above (individual, shop, and school).

Why Renew Online?

  • Get your license back in days rather than weeks
  • Immediate confirmation of payment while you wait for your license
  • Simple process, with the option to update your mailing address
  • Most major cards accepted (except American Express)

You will not be eligible to renew online if your license is not current or if you have any outstanding obligations (such as fines or non-compliance with child support). You must renew by May 31 to be able to use the online system.

Welcome to the NCBB website

The purpose of the Board is to issue a certificate of apprenticeship or registration to those individuals that meet the criteria of the Board. Individuals that meet the criteria of the Board must have completed 1528 class room hours and passed a written and practical exam and issued an apprentice license. The registered barber must have also completed a 12 month apprenticeship under the supervision of a registered barber and has passed a practical exam.

The Board ensures that no person or combination of persons shall, either directly or indirectly, practice or attempt to practice barbering in the State of North Carolina without first obtaining a certificate issued pursuant to provision of the General Statute by the State Board of Barber Examiners.
